There has been an out-pour of reactions by Lagos-based Graphic designers to the recently unveiled Lagos @50 logo.
Most of the reactions have been with disgust at the level of ‘unprofessional-ism’, ambiguity and complexity which the unveiled logo represent.

Lagos @50 Approved logo
According to lexain.com, a lot seem wrong with the logo;
“It lacks form, discipline, order and professionalism all of which Lagos represents lately and why use black as a background? What this mean is that no reputable designer is exportable from Lagos and that is very wrong.We are here, we are professionals, we are plenty, we know our onions and we would not accept mediocrity any longer in our society.
If only the committee had made this an open brief, I am very certain that Nigeria graphic designers would murder the brief and shred it into pieces.”
What even made it worse, it the calibre of people in the committee that approved the Logo. It was shocking to see a committee which has the likes of Bolanle Austen Peters, Professor Wole soyinka and the likes (See the complete list here), approving such a logo that depicts neither the current lagos nor the lagos we all dream of.
In there words, “Design is meant to simplify all manners of complexities, non of which is portrayed in the logo approved.”
And trust Naija Graphic designers, they came up with what a befitting Lagos @50 logo should look like. Here are some samples;
